Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA

Diagnostic Use

Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MPN) is a common cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), especially in children and young adults. Due to its slow growth and fastidious nature, traditional culture methods for detection are time-consuming and often impractical in clinical settings. Real-time PCR has emerged as a reliable method for rapid and sensitive detection of M. pneumoniae from respiratory samples such as throat swabs, nasopharyngeal aspirates, and sputum.

Testing will be performed on samples when specifically requested, or with a Respiratory Multiplex request for patients 16 years old and over.
