Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is a crown owned pathology service provider and a tertiary level reference and teaching laboratory in New Zealand.
CHL has capability and experience in providing a complex range of services to aid the patient journey, from routine diagnostics through to specialist and reference testing (including the World Health Organisation (WHO) National Measles and Rubella Reference Laboratory), Ministry of Health screening services and clinical research.
With a unique and multi-disciplinary team of scientists, scientific officers, technicians and pathologists supported by comprehensive support services, including dedicated information services and finance teams, CHL works collaboratively as part of the wider health system.
Services are delivered from CHL’s base laboratory, alongside the Christchurch Tertiary Hospital campus, with a second testing laboratory based in Ashburton and an extensive supported Point of Care Testing network. We also provide phlebotomy services at the Outpatient building on the Christchurch campus, at Burwood Hospital and at Ashburton Hospital.
CHL also has a close clinical relationship and a unified management structure with the West Coast DHB Laboratory.
Quality is at the core of our laboratory operations. Sustainability, trust, confidence and affordability underpin the relationships we have with our partners and referrers.
This wealth of experience supports our capacity and ability to be agile and innovative in the provision of an effective and consistent healthcare service.
