Protect sample from light
CSF should be drawn at least 12 hours after a suspected event.
Sample must be delivered to lab with in 1 hr

Aliquot Instructions: CSF 500 uL Fridge - protect from light, Last aliquot drawn to be forwarded for analysis, Centrifuge sample within one hour, send supernatant for analysis. Send ASAP, fridge temperature
Interpretation
Xanthochromia may be indicative of: cerebral haemorrhage; cerebral tumor; impaired circulation of the CSF; jaundice – a rise in unconjugated bilirubin may impart a yellow colour to CSF.
