Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite, is a significant pathogen in humans. The primary host is cats and it infects numerous mammals including humans.
Infection is often benign or asymptomatic but can have severe consequences in immunocompromised individuals and the foetus in pregnant women.
Toxo IgG serology in conjunction with Toxo IgM can aid in the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis

Interpretation

A positive Toxo IgG  indicates previous exposure to T gondii or a current infection. IgM can persist for several months or years so it’s not possible to confirm recent infection on IgM result alone. Interpret in conjunction with IgG result and clinical history.
Demonstration of seroconversion or Toxo Avidity testing may aid the diagnosis.
