Thyroid Hormone Receptor Beta: THRB Sequencing

Diagnostic Use

Resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH), with elevated serum free thyroid hormones and non-suppressed thryrotropin levels, is either relatively asymptomatic, suggesting a generalized disorder (GRTH) or associated with thyrotoxic features, indicating possible selective pituitary resistance (PRTH). Analysis of exons 7 to 10 of the THRB gene may detect between 95% and 100% of all mutations in patients with Generalised Resistance to Thyroid Hormone (GRTH).
