Interpretation
A positive solubility test indicates the presence of a sickling haemoglobin; it does not differentiate between homozygotes and heterozygotes.
Test Method
Sickle solubility test - based upon the 'Itano solubility test', i.e. the insolubility of reduced sickle-cell haemoglobin in concentrated phosphate buffer.
