Pre-testing Requirements
• Canterbury Health Laboratories provide a skin scraping service. All scabies skin scrapes must be approved by a clinical microbiologist.
• GP should phone 03 364 0300 to speak with the Bacteriology Registrar or Microbiologist.
• If scabies skin scraping is approved, please include the microbiologist's name on the request form.
• Skin scrapings are by appointment only (Mon-Fri 8am-1pm) at Blood Test centre, Outpatients building. Bookings phone number will be advised on approval of the skin scraping. Walk-in appointments are not available.
• Consultation or examination time is usually 15 to 25 minutes.
• Patients are told to contact their general practice to receive their examination result.
• If ongoing diagnostic uncertainty, seek dermatology advice.
