The normal range for urinary phenol concentrations is 0.5-81.5 mg/L with non-exposed individuals falling in the range from 5-10 mg/L

Test Method

Phenol conjugates are hydrolysed in hydrochloric acid. Phenol is extracted into ether and is detected by flame ionisation on the gas chromatograph.
