Interpretation
A low p50 indicates increased oxygen Hb affinity.
A high p50 reflects a decreased oxygen Hb affinity.
Changes in p50 are in indirect measure of the 2,3, dPG concentration.
Test Method
Blood gas analyser: calculated from standard conditions - pH 7.40, pCO2 40 mmHg, temp 37°C.
The p50 is a measure of the oxyhaemoglobin binding characteristics identifying the position of the oxygen haemoglobin dissociation curve at half saturation (SO2 = 50%).
