UPDATED CLINICAL INDICATIONS FOR TESTING FOR RhD POSITIVE WOMEN:
Please note that, from 21st of August 2023:
- Testing will not be performed unless clinical details and the RhD status are clearly provided on the request form.
- Samples will be held for 72 hours post collection, so testing may be added should there be a change in the clinical picture.
- Guidelines remain unchanged for RhD negative women.
The clinical indications for Kleihauer testing for RhD positive women are being updated to reduce unnecessary tests as part of “choosing wisely”. To match our practice with the latest ANZSBT guidelines (attached below), any requests for Kleihauer tests will not be performed on these women unless they meet the following clinical indications;
- Unexplained Foetal Hydrops or Severe Foetal Anaemia
- Reduced Foetal Movements with normal ultrasound
- IUFD and Unexplained Stillbirth
