Diagnostic Use

This test is intended for the detection of antibodies to insulin which may be useful when investigating unknown causes of hypoglycaemia. Free insulin is calculated by measuring insulin pre and post PEG extraction.

This test is not designed to detect the low levels of anti-insulin auto-antibodies that may precede the development of Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
It is not for the detection of antibodies (anti-IA2, anti-GAD, anti-ZNT8) which may be helpful in the diagnosis of T1DM.
