Galactomannan (GMAG) is a component of the Aspergillus cell wall that can be detected in the tissues and fluids (typically serum and bronchial washings) of patients with invasive aspergillosis (IA).
Microbiology - Serology
Sample must be frozen within 48 hrs of collecton. Referred to Waikato Hospital
Minimum volume of 1 mL of serum or bronchial washings
Chilled (2 - 8 degrees Celsius)
If overnight - Frozen

Two consecutive Reactive results in the context of appropriate clinical features suggests possible Invasive Aspergillosis.
Reference Range = Index 0-0.5
Galactomannan Index <0.5 is reported as Negative
Galactomannan Index >/= 0.5 is reported as Reactive
