Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 (FGF-23) – sendaway test

Diagnostic Use

Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) is a hormone involved in phosphate homeostasis.
Plasma FGF-23 measurement may be helpful in the investigation of disorders of phosphate regulation.

FGF-23 is a sendaway test to Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. Requests will be vetted by a chemical pathologist and will be rejected if insufficient relevant clinical information is provided.

Sample must be kept on ice until spun and separated within 30 mins of collection. Once separated aliquot must be frozen ASAP.

West Coast: Rural collection sites without the ability to separate and freeze plasma and transport frozen samples, need to consider sending patient to a main centre for collection to ensure sample integrity.

Additional Costing Information

Test cost $90 AUD as of May 2023, however, most of the cost to the laboratory will involve dry ice shipment expense (>$1000 NZD).
