Interpretation
Deoxyhaemoglobin is reported on a blood gas specimen. An elevated deoxyhaemoglobin usually indicates hypoxaemia. Patients with a high deoxyhaemoglobin may appear cyanosed due to the purple-blue colour of deoxyhaemoglobin (in comparison with the red colour of oxyhaemoglobin).
