Diagnostic Use

Anti-cardiolipin antibodies can support the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), when present on two or more occasions, tested at least 12 weeks apart.
Associated tests used in the diagnosis of APS should include lupus anti-coagulant and IgG B2GP1 antibodies.

Interpretation

To support the diagnosis of APS IgG and/or IgM anti-cardiolipin antibodies, present in medium or high titre, must be present on 2 occasions, at least 12 weeks apart.

Associated tests used in the diagnosis of APS should include lupus anti-coagulant and IgG B2GP1 antibodies.

In the context of APS, positive anti-cardiolipin antibodies may be associated with repeated thrombosis or foetal loss.
