Anti-nuclear Antibodies - screen
Negative ANA usually rules out (99% sensitive using the 1982 ACR Classification Criteria) a diagnosis of SLE although anti Ro positive SLE patients may be negative. See comments on result reports regarding ANA patterns.
All positive ANA screens will be titred. ANA testing may be added to requests for myositis antibodies, ENA & scleroderma antibody requests to confirm line blot or CIEP results if this has not been performed at CHL.
