Endocrine Pathology

The Endocrine Pathology team receives a wide spectrum of biopsies and complex resection specimens related to hereditary and non-hereditary disorders of endocrine organs, including thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.

The team reports approximately 250 thyroid fine needle aspirate specimens each year, and intraoperative frozen section examination is routinely performed for patients undergoing parathyroid surgery. When required, histological assessment is supplemented by the use of immunohistochemical stains, FISH studies and molecular testing.

The service is also actively involved in multi-disciplinary meetings with Endocrine Physicians, Surgeons, Oncologists and Radiologists.
