Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGF-BP3)

Diagnostic Use

IGF-BP3 is a useful index of growth hormone secretion, especially in children under 10 years old and particularly when GH deficiency is suspected.

Requests for this test will be vetted by a chemical pathologist and will be rejected if insufficient relevant clinical information is provided. Requests in adult patients will be declined without prior consultation with a chemical pathologist.

West Coast: If specimen is unable to be separated, take blood on SST and send chilled to Greymouth Lab. At Greymouth lab freeze serum/plasma for transport to CHL.
