P1NP has replaced BALP as the preferred bonemarker for bone formation.
BALP is a less specific test and now only available by prior arrangement.
It may be useful in some research studies.

Interpretation
1. This method is not interchangeable with other alkaline phosphatase assays. While it shows relatively low interference from the liver ALP isoenzyme, raised levels (liver ALP>110 U/L) may influence BALP results.
2. Results are not valid in the presence of EDTA. Samples will be screened for EDTA before BALP assay.
