Canterbury Health Laboratories has a history of regularly scheduling educational forums to promote the science of medical diagnostic laboratory testing.

Staff are actively encouraged to participate in International conferences pertaining to their areas of interest, as well as facilitating meetings with clinical staff throughout New Zealand.


The Lab Meeting

Canterbury Health Laboratories annually invites laboratory managers and leaders from around New Zealand and Australia to participate in their “User Group” meeting.


Over the years the meeting has moved from a predominantly scientific focus to recently becoming more aligned to management of, and discussion surrounding the medical laboratory industry.


Delegates represent key health management sectors including:

Representatives from laboratories who refer samples to CHL for analysis
Course leaders from the tertiary institutions currently providing BMLSc qualification
Significant external customers
Health representatives such as; Ministry of Health, NSU, & CDHB representatives


Labnet Meeting

Meetings are regularly held between Laboratory Information Services Multi Lab partners to ensure common goals and service deliveries are aligned and improved.


Peer Review Meetings

Annual meetings are held for scientists and pathologists focusing on key laboratory departments. Meetings currently held are for Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Registration & Reception. This allows a forum for scientific staff to discuss recent advances in technology in their specific areas and discuss issues surrounding the particular area of medical laboratory science in which they have experience.
